Remember, this book was written before computers became mainstream (if they existed at all), and certainly the research was conducted without the aid of computers. Both of these books are premier Stevenson, removed but not lesser than "The Black Arrow" in entertainment. So, he likes Daisy Gets a Ball and he likes this story because there are some sad parts and then happy parts. What makes this a complete five star for me is the illustrations, which in my opinion, are even scarier as an adult. And although a Paul Desmond version is mentioned, the Brubeck Quartet performance on the indispensable "Jazz at Oberlin" album (which evokes without stating the melody) is not.
